Abstract:
The meeting of the Working Party at Karlsruhe was intended as a preparation for the Symposium of the International Society for Horticultural Science to be held at Alnarp in 1977. The aim was to have a comprehensive exchange of experiences among the invited research workers, and to obtain information about current research topics as well as indications to the future directions of research.
I would like to thank the Commission of the European Communities for inviting the participants and reimbursing their expenses, and the participants themselves for their enthusiasm which guaranteed the success of the meeting.
This volume contains the papers presented by the participants and summaries of the discussions.
The discussions were lengthy and it has unfortunately been impossible to include all contributions: similarly some contributions have had to be shortened.
In the course of the meeting many possibilities for the saving of energy were suggested and discussed.
One important res lt was the recognition that we need more information from the physiologists and the horticulturalists about the ways in which plants might be affected by some of the proposals put forward.
