Abstract:
An in-situ method has been developed for extracting soil solution from capillary-watered beds for the rapid assessment of pH, electrical conductivity and concentration of principal nutrients.
The extractor is based on a porous, ceramic filter candle connected to a rubber suction bulb.
The technique compares favourably with a standard laboratory method, and has been successfully used to monitor the salinity and nutrient status of a number of capillary-watered beds used in a multi-factorial, single truss tomato experiment.
