ISHS Acta Horticulturae 7: Symposium on the Techniques of Experimentation in Greenhouses

SIMULTANEOUS OBSERVATIONS ON ROOT AND TOP GROWTH

Author:   Ir. C.J. Van Der Post
Abstract:
Proper study of growth demands repeated observation of the various parts of the plant. To derive information about the root system, in particular time consuming methods are necessary. Nevertheless it is desirable, when applying these intensive methods, also to make frequent and systematic observations during the whole culture period, collecting both root and top data. Moreover, studying several crops with greatly differing growing patterns with one specific procedure seems to have advantages. These data may lead to better information about differences in the growth habit of crops and on the demands of various crops on the cultural conditions and their regulation.
