Abstract:
There is a strong likelihood that rapid development in modern retail marketing will become the dominant means of sale.
If this is true, thousands of participants involved in the traditional retail market will loose their jobs.
A case study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of traditional and modern retail supply chains for fresh vegetables in West Java.
To measure the performance of both supply chains, the six principles of supply chain management were used.
Results of the study show that the development of the modern retail market is unlikely to threaten the existence of traditional retail markets.
On the contrary, it increased sales.
However, in the face of increasing global competition, it is recommended that Government facilitate a better price information service and provide a special space in the traditional wholesale and retail market to facilitate transactions of high quality and healthy vegetables.
