ADDING VALUE THROUGH QUALITY LABELLING: THE CASE OF THIEU THANH HA LYCHEE IN VIETNAM

Authors:   D.T. Anh, T.T. Minh
Keywords:   labeling, PDO, lychee, value chain, quality management, Vietnam
Abstract:
The Thieu Thanh ha lychee, from the Red River Delta in Vietnam, has always had a fine reputation. However, low prices now threaten production in the region. The reason for this is the consumers’ lack of information about the superior quality of these lychees compared to other lychees. The process of labeling Thieu Thanh ha lychees aims to improve the marketability of the crop and to protect the production region. This work requires a research-action approach to improve quality management in the value chain. The involvement of producers and the ability to develop a specific distribution network to reach specific clientele are critical factors for success.
