PERSISTENCE OF DIFFERENT PESTICIDES IN APPLE

Authors:   I.D. Sharma, A. Nath
Keywords:   pesticide residues, persistence, apple, waiting periods
Abstract:
Most of the pesticides recommended under spray schedule programme for the control of apple pests in Himachal Pradesh, a hilly state of India were evaluated for residue analysis. Each pesticide was sprayed at two concentrations i.e. recommended and double the recommended dose at two locations, Mashobra and Nauni and samples were analyzed at different intervals (0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 25 and 30 days) after the final spray by gas chromatography except carbendazim, mancozeb and dodine which were analyzed by spectrophotometery. The residue data for different pesticides were subjected to mathematical treatments for working out waiting periods which were 4, 19, 16, 8, 1 and 21 days for endosulfan, chlorpyriphos, methyl parathion, dichlorvos, lindane and fenazaquin, respectively (insecticides) and 25, 30, 30, 14, 8 and 23 days for mancozeb, bitertanol, myclobutanil, dodine, carbendazim and antracol, respectively (fungicides). The half-life values varied from 1.3-6.7 days for these pesticides.
