Abstract:
Survey studies carried out during 1999-2001 in various apple orchards in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh revealed that San Jose scale (Quadraspidiotus perniciosus Comstock), woolly apple aphid (Eriosoma lanigerum Hausman), blossom thrips (Taeniothrips rhopalantennalis Shamsher Singh) apple stem borer (Aeolesthes holoserica F.), shot hole borer (Scolytoplatypus raja Blandf) and apple root borer (Dorysthenes Hugelii) were the major insect-pests and hairy root (Agrobacterium rhizogenes), collar rot (Phytophthora cactorum), smoky blight (Botryosphaeria quercum) and canker (Botryobasidium salmonicolor) were the major diseases observed at different locations limiting apple production.
Different types of extension strategies for transfer of technology like trainings, demonstrations, farmer scientist interaction- meetings, farmers discussion, farmer days, literature, newspaper coverage, exhibitions are being applied by KVK, Chamba for the management of insect-pests and diseases of apple.
