ISHS Acta Horticulturae 696: VII International Symposium on Temperate Zone Fruits in the Tropics and Subtropics - Part Two

EFFECT OF GIRDLING, THINNING AND GA3 ON FRUIT GROWTH, YIELD, QUALITY AND SHELF LIFE OF GRAPES (VITIS VINIFERA L.) CV. PERLETTE

Authors:   M. Ahmad, R. Kumari Kaul, B.L. Kaul
Keywords:   grapes, girdling, GA3, fruit quality, shelf life, yield
Abstract:
Growth pattern of the grapes cv. Perlette revealed that berry shows double sigmoid growth pattern and takes 69 days after fruit set (DAFS) to mature under agroclimatic conditions of Jammu. Girdling + 40 ppm GA3 proved most effective in increasing bunch size, bunch weight and yield while as quality of grapes in terms of TSS, acidity, TSS / acid ratio and reducing sugars were significantly improved. During storage, at room temperature, minimum physiological loss in weight (PLW) was observed with girdling + 40 ppm GA3 thus extending shelf life up to three days.
