Authors:   A.K. Singh, R.M. Sharma, R. Kher, A. Jasrotia
Keywords:   peach, pear, bud sprouting, plant height
Abstract:
In nursery, the bud sprouting in different cultivars of pear was observed from 24th Feb. to 16th of March. LeConte pear proved best in terms of plant survival (55.34%), plant height (155.5 cm) and stem girth (1.10 cm). Among peach cultivars the bud sprouting took place between 10th Feb. to 28th Feb. and the higher plant survival (95.95%), plant height (257.50 cm) and stem girth (2.43 cm) were registered with Tropical Snow, Flordasun and Florda Gold, respectively. In field, among the different pear cultivars, higher leaf number (49.83/plant), shoot extension growth (44.1 cm ) and photosynthetic efficiency (2.96 mg/cm2) were recorded in Punjab Gold, Punjab Beauty and Punjab Nectar, respectively. In peach, significantly higher values for shoot extension growth (97.04 cm) and photosynthetic efficiency (0.73 mg/cm2) were registered with Sharbati, while Shan-i-Punjab excelled over others for number of leaves (30.83/30 cm shoot length).
