GENETIC DIVERSITY OF OPEN POLLINATED CAULIFLOWER CULTIVARS IN INDONESIA

Abstract:
Eight cauliflower cultivars collected from three production regions in Indonesia were evaluated using RAPD markers. The objectives of this study were to investigate genetic variation and relationships between cultivars and to evaluate variation within cultivars as all of them are open-pollinated. DNA was extracted using a Nucleon Phytopure Plant DNA extraction kit, followed by treatment with RNAse. DNA polymorphism generated from 10 polymorphic primers was used to construct a dendrogram using the unweighted pair-group method with arithmetic averages (UPGMA). The RAPD technique indicated that variation occurred both within and between cultivars.
