ISHS Acta Horticulturae 693: III International Chestnut Congress

ASSESSMENT OF A NEW CONCEPT OF CHESTNUT ORCHARD MANAGEMENT IN THE VEGETATIVE WALL

Authors:   J. Gomes-Laranjo, J.P. Coutinho, J. Torres-Pereira, C. Ramos
Keywords:   chestnut, vegetative wall, gas exchanges, histology
Abstract:
Chestnuts are large-sized trees which reveal a different physiological behaviour around the canopy, harmonious to the position of the sun. The differential daylight availability around the canopy induces balanced and dynamic gas exchanges. The photosynthetic rates around traditional canopies and vegetative walls are compared. Fruits and leaves are also studied, those of the vegetative wall being much more homogeneous than the ones of the traditional canopies.
