Abstract:
The Portuguese populations of chestnut are a genetic resource with differenttiated types.
For modern industry, selected cultivars are crucial.
In order to be able to supply economic agents with certified material for commercialisation the molecular characterisation of cultivars is very important.
The aim of this study was to recover and valorise traditional Portuguese cultivars of chestnut for nut, in order to preserve the genetic resources of this specie in Centre North regions of Portugal.
To accomplish this goal, molecular characterization of Portuguese traditional chestnut cultivars was initiated using nuclear SSRs as molecular marker and the first results are presented.
