Abstract:
A total of 57 mould strains were isolated from 26 samples of sun-dried rose hips obtained from retailer markets in Erzurum, Turkey. The mould strains were identified according to their macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. Twentynine of the identified strains belonged to Penicillium (50.8%), 6 (10.5%) to Rhizopus, 6 (10.5%) to Mucor, 4 (7.0%) to Alternaria, 2 (3.5%) to Aspergillus and 2 (3.5%) to Fusarium. Eight of the 57 strains (14%) could not be identified. Penicillium strains were frequent on all the rose hip samples. Yeast and mould counts of all the rose hip samples ranged from 4.08 to 4.72 log cfu g-1 (colonies per gram).
