ISHS Acta Horticulturae 690: I International Rose Hip Conference

EFFECTS OF SUBSTRATE AND IBA-CONCENTRATION ON ADVENTITIOUS ROOT FORMATION ON HARDWOOD CUTTINGS OF ROSA DUMALIS

Authors:   S. Ercişli, A. Eşitken, O. Anapali, U. Şahin
Keywords:   auxin, dogrose, plant hormone, propagation, rooting substrate, rose-hip
Abstract:
Hardwood cuttings of the R. dumalis clone 25-Mrk-19 were taken in November and treated with 0, 1500, 3500 and 5000 ppm IBA to investigate differences in rooting characteristics in perlite, peat, sawdust, peat+sawdust (1:1) and peat+perlite (1:1) substrates. IBA application improved overall rooting capacity; 3500 ppm IBA was optimal for rooting of this genotype. The highest rooting percentage, root length and root number were obtained in peat+perlite, peat+sawdust; sawdust and peat+perlite substrates, respectively. The best substrates with regard to amount of large pore size (>100 µm) providing aeration and drainage, was sawdust, while the amount of moisture retained at low tensions (<0.33 atm) was highest in peat+sawdust.
