Abstract:
At the Angers Research Station, the works developed for selecting pear rootstocks from quince populations have shown the impossibility to find clones having a very good compatibility with some pear scion varieties or allowing the pear cultivation on line soil.
So, we have undertaken works to select dwarfing rootstocks from Pyrus communis L. (see proceedings of Symposium "Culture du Poirier" Angers, Septembre 1972).
In autumn 1971, 80 selected seedlings and two controls, East Malling clone A and Fieudière, budded with the Williams variety, were planted for trial.
In that paper, we report the records of tree size and yield of Williams on these rootstocks.
