Abstract:
The relative extents of rootstock and of scion influence on the growth and reproduction of three clones of quince rootstocks for pears is compared.
The absence of important interaction between rootstock and scion emphasises the additive nature of their effects on growth and, thereby, the likely importance of scion selection, as well as rootstock influence, if present trends towards exacting specification of tree size and behaviour in the modern orchard should continue.
