Abstract:
MYB transcription factors are a large family of regulatory proteins, which affect expression of genes involved in several aspects of plant development.
We isolated an R2R3 transcription factor from grapevine by 3’-5’ RACE, taking advantage from the highly conserved sequence of the N-terminal binding domain.
VvMYB3 has high sequence homology with other transcription factors of MYB subgroup 4, which includes several repressors of the expression of genes of the phenylpropanoid metabolism.
The gene is expressed throughout the plant’s organs.
Tobacco plants were transformed with VvMYB3. In transformants expressing the gene, the expression of C4H was reduced.
