Abstract:
The response of grapevine leaf net photosynthesis to light was studied in a Mediterranean environment (Madrid, Spain) during fruit ripening.
Net photosynthesis was measured on primary and lateral shoot leaves located at three positions on the shoot (lower, middle and upper) and two positions on the canopy (external and inner). The light response curves of photosynthesis were also measured at two levels of leaf water potential.
The photosynthesis light response curves were fitted to a rectangular hyperbola.
The light response of photosynthesis of mature leaves was higher than those for younger or older leaves.
The light response curve of photosynthesis was greater for leaves from primary shoots than leaves on lateral shoots at the same position on the respective shoots.
The light photosynthesis curve was lower for leaves with lower water potentials.
