Abstract:
Tree nuts, foods which are eaten in small quantities as an appetiser or forming part of other processed foods, have historically been considered as superfluous foods.
In the last few years many studies have appeared which relate their consumption to the reduction in levels of cholesterol and the risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases.
In this review we will consider not only these aspects but also the effect of tree nuts consumption on body weight and cancer, although only scarce and controversial data are available in this respect.
