Abstract:
The paper presents the results of investigations on changes in activity of endogenous gibberellins in dormant corms of gladiolus and in the over-ground parts of plants during vegetative season as well as in the flower buds in the subsequent phases of floral spike development.
The low gibberellin activity was observed in dormant corms both in the neutral and acidic fraction.
Breaking of dormancy in corms occured on the turn of January when the increase in the activity of gibberellin-like substances was observed.
The highest gibberellin level was noted in the over-ground parts of plants during flower induction and floral spike formation as well as in the extracts from the flowers themselves.
After anthesis the activity of endogenous gibberellins considerably decreased.
