Abstract:
A primary screening of dichloromethane extract of Hymenocardia wallichii Tul. exhibited activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis with the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 100 µg/ml.
Chromatographic separation of this extract yielded squalene (1), stigmasterol (2), friedelin (3) and homopterocarpin (4). Squalene possessed antimycobacterial activity with the MIC of 100 µg/ml.
This is the first time to report the chemical constituents from this plant.
