Abstract:
Changes in freezing tolerance of four groups of hybrid lily bulbs were examined during long-term storage at -2°C. Estimated median lethal temperature (LT50) of shoots became higher with longer storage duration in ‘Le Reve’, ‘Hinomoto’ and ‘Connecticut King’. In ‘Turandot’, the estimated LT50 was almost constant. The estimated LT50 in ‘Connecticut King’ and ‘Turandot’ was still low after storing bulbs for 10 months. All bulbs of these two cultivars were alive, while some bulbs of other two cultivars were already dead after 10 months storage at -2°C. These results indicate that the freezing tolerance of shoots tends to decline with prolonged storage at -2°C.
