Abstract:
LLO hybrids were obtained by crossing L lilies and chromosome doubled LO hybrids.
Pollen fertility in the interspecific hybrids of Lilium formosanum var. pricei and the Oriental hybrid ‘Le Reve’ was restored through somatic chromosome doubling.
The pollen was mounted on shortened styles of various lengths of L. longiflorum ‘Hinomoto’, L. x formolongi ‘White Lancer’ and L. formosanum var. pricei. Ovary-ovule culture was applied to rescue the fertilized embryos.
Progenies were successfully obtained from L. x formolongi and L. formosanum var. pricei, but not from L. longiflorum. The majority of obtained plants were found to be triploids.
The plants flowered in the following year of crossing with perfect trumpet shaped flowers.
