PEAR PRODUCTION IN THE NORTH AMERICA

Abstract:
North America’s area in pear production, over the last five years, has decreased 6 percent. The U.S. has about 80 percent of the land in pears, Mexico about 15 percent, and Canada 5 percent. The volume of pears in North America has increased 3 percent. The U.S. has about 94 percent of the volume in pears; Mexico and Canada have about 3 percent of the total volume each. The production in North America per ha, however, increased 8 percent to 30 t/ha. The t/ha in the U.S. increased greatly from 32.7 t/ha to 35.4 t/ha, a 7 percent increase.
