ISHS Acta Horticulturae 67: X International Symposium on Fruit Tree Virus Diseases

COMPARATIVE STUDIES OF GREEN CRINKLE IN 'GULDBORG' AND SOME ORNAMENTAL MALUS

Author:   A. Thomsen
Abstract:
In experiments carried out at The State Plant Pathology Institute at Lyngby, Denmark, it is shown that several apple varieties react with fruit symptoms after inoculation of green crinkle.

Among these especially 'Golden Delicious' and Malus purpurea 'Eleyi' react vigorously to green crinkle, but because of earlier fruiting the latter one might be chosen as indicator for this disease.

Two grafting methods for transmission of green crinkle have been compared, and the results clearly show that intermediate grafting is a better transmission method than by budding.

Also it is demonstrated that infected trees does not necessarily show symptoms on the fruits.
