ISHS Acta Horticulturae 67: X International Symposium on Fruit Tree Virus Diseases

EXPERIMENTS WITH DAPPLE APPLE VIRUS

Authors:   A.I. Campbell, T.R. Sparks
Abstract:
An attempt to inactivate dapple apple virus by heat therapy and tip propagation in the cultivar Red Delicious was unsuccessful although three other viruses present in the same scions were inactivated. The results suggest that dapple apple may be more resistant to high temperatures than some other apple viruses.

Transmission tests showed that more than half of the cultivars artificially infected were sensitive to dapple apple virus. The disease appears to be very rare in England and no natural spread has been recorded.
