CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF SHARKA TRANSMISSION BY MYZUS PERSICAE SULZ

Authors:   G. Massonié, P. Maison, K. Mazy
Abstract:
Experiments dealing with the transmission of Sharka virus by virginopara aptera of Myzus persicae Sulz. have pointed out :
  • efficiency of a single aphid in virus transmission from peach to peach seedling is low,
  • incubation period is short (15 ± 7 days) when the apical parts (stem and leaves) of seedlings are inoculated and long (60 ± 1O days) when the basal parts are inoculated.

No conclusive result has been obtained on the rate of transmission of Sharka virus according to the tissue age of the inoculated seedlings.

  • inoculation of peach trees in october, just at the time of migration flight of the gynopara, confirm their susceptibility to Sharka virus.

These results are discussed in connection to the epidemiology of Sharka virus in peach orchards.
