Abstract:
FOREWORD
A First International ISHS Humulus Symposium occurred from 1 to 7 August 2004, in Corvallis, Oregon.
More than 100 participants, including scientists from 13 countries, met to discuss the serious challenges and current advances in hop development and culture.
This multi-day symposium took place in conjunction with the Hop Research Council Annual meeting and with the administrative assistance of the Oregon and Washington Hop Growers Associations.
Sponsors included the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Oregon State University, John I. Haas, Heineken, and Anheuser-Busch and the Hop Research Council.
The symposium meetings were held at the CH2MHill Alumni Center of Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.
Local tours of the hop research facilities at the USDA, ARS, Oregon State University, Department of Botany and Plant Pathology, and the Department of Food Technology were provided.
A post-symposium tour visited Oregon and Washington hop growers, processing plants, and regional breweries.
The Commission on Plant Genetic Resources coordinated this symposium in conjunction with the Section of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants.
Under this section, a Humulus working group was formed, with anticipation of a subsequent meeting in 2007.
The editors express their gratitude to the authors for their written contributions to make this publication possible.
