Abstract:
Longan gall mites (Eriophyes dimocarpi Kuang) started to migrate to panicle when the primary branches of flower panicle began to develop in the spring, and caused the witches’ broom.
The population of longan gall mite increased then onwards and peaked at full bloom.
The symptom spread to the range of 4-5 tree spaces every year.
The pest can be controlled with removal of infected panicles.
The panicles were sprayed with a mixture of 1:800 water solution of 20% dicofol and 1:400 solution of 50% colloidal sulphur when mites were moving toward flowers.
The mite population was reduced and fruit-set improved.
