Abstract:
Rambutan is a plant whose fruit is harvested seasonally.
However, ringing in the on-year could make rambutan trees flower and produce fruit in the off-season.
In this experiment the trees were treated by ringing in the on-year and the off-year, and the fruit production and starch fluctuation in the leaves, barks and roots were observed.
The experiment was Factorial; the Factor I was ringing in the previous the on-year (1999), i.e. ringing and not ringing and Factor II was ringing in this the off-year (2000), i.e. ringing and not ringing.
The trees getting ringing treatment in 2000 flowered faster than those that did not.
The number of inflorescences per tree did not differ significantly between each treatment, but the number of fruits per bunch and production per tree in the plants never getting ringing was the lowest.
The highest production was that of 1999 without ringing but in 2000 the plants got ringing.
Ringing increased starch content in the top and decreased it in the root.
