Abstract:
Effects of potassium chlorate (KClO3), sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) and calcium hypochlorite [Ca(ClO)2] on flowering and some physiological changes in ‘Do’ longan were studied from November 1999 to July 2000. The 10-12 year old trees at the Lampang Agricultural Research and Training Center were used.
The experiment was arranged in completely randomized design with four replications.
The chemicals were applied as soil drench on 30 November 1999 at the rates of 5, 5 and 5.25 g.m-2 of canopy of KClO3, NaOCl and Ca(ClO)2, respectively.
The results showed that the treated trees flowered better than the untreated trees.
In addition, the trees treated with KClO3 and NaOCl flowered earlier than those treated with Ca(ClO)2. Besides, NaOCl and Ca(ClO)2 were found to shorten the length of flower panicles.
The effect of these chemicals on the contents of total nonstructural carbohydrate and total nitrogen and C/N ratio in the leaves and shoots prior to panicle emergence was not pronounced.
In addition, the application of these chemicals did not affect the number of fruit/panicle, fruit size and total soluble solid content of fruits.
