Abstract:
European plum seedlings (Prunus domestica L.) which originated from 22 cross-combinations were planted in the Experimental Orchard at Dąbrowice, near Skierniewice, in the spring of 1997. In 2000-2002 several pomological characteristics were evaluated, including fruit size and fruit quality.
Considerable variation in fruit size was observed between the seedlings and cross-combinations.
The biggest fruit size was observed in the following combinations: ‘Stanley’ x ‘Empress’, ‘Cacanska Lepotica’ x ‘Bluefre’ and ‘Empress’ x ‘Herman’. The best quality fruits were produced by the progenies of ‘Cacanska Lepotica’ x ‘Empress’ and ‘Empress’ x ‘Herman’.
