Abstract:
Two supplementary pollination management techniques namely, flower bouquet and hand pollination were studied for increasing fruit-set and yield in Delicious orchards located at 5500 feet amsl.
In trial of flower bouquet of different pollinisers viz., Granny Smith, Manchurian, Red Gold, Golden Spur, Snowdrift, Tydeman’s Early Worcester, Summer Queen and Golden Delicious were placed in different directions on each tree.
In bouquet techniques, fruit setting percentage was 41.66 with Golden Spur followed by Golden Delicious, Granny Smith and Red Gold, whereas least fruit set (14.83%) was noticed in plants without any bouquet (control). Maximum fruit set of 36.36 per cent was also recorded with Golden Delicious hand pollinated trees in 2002. In 2003 maximum fruit set (55.23%) was recorded when Red Gold was used in bouquet system and in hand pollination trial maximum fruit set (64.94%) was also recorded with pollen of Red Gold.
