PEACH REPLANT PROBLEM: ASSESSMENT AND INVESTIGATION

Authors:   J. Singh, J.S. Dhiman
Keywords:   peach, replant, crown gall, root-knot
Abstract:
The present studies were conducted to assess the replant problem in peach orchards and to investigate the soil factors associated with it. The study revealed that replant problem was significantly positively related with the incidence of crown gall and root-knot diseases. The varieties Early Amber, Sun Gold, Venturia and Flordasun contracted relatively less problem. Old peach soil showed more disease proneness. Peach plants in virgin soil (non-peach agriculture soil) had more trunk girth, canopy spread and least sickness index. Sick soil (rhizosphere of severely declining peach trees) caused reduction in plant height, stem girth and in canopy spread in Shan-i-Punjab peach cultivar over healthy soils (rhizosphere of healthy peach trees). Addition of virgin soil to the planting site could help in reclaiming the problem to a fair degree.
