Abstract:
Five-year-old trees of were chosen for the present investigations.
Twenty-one branches were selected at random and girdling was done starting from full bloom and continued at weekly intervals till 42 days after full bloom.
Hand thinning of fruits on 15 branches was done manually at fruit set and at weekly intervals thereafter.
Twenty-one branches were used for girdling plus thinning treatments starting from full bloom till 42 days after full bloom at weekly intervals.
No girdling and thinning were done on control branches.
Fruits under treatments of girdling plus thinning, girdling alone done at full bloom and 28 days thereafter, thinning fruits two week after full bloom matured earlier by 12 days, 6 days and 5 days respectively than control.
Fruit weight, size and sugars were maximum under girdling plus thinning treatments performed two weeks after bloom whereas highest TSS (12.47%) was recorded in this treatment the full bloom stage.
However, under girdling treatment size, diameter and quality measured in terms of sugars were maximum when done 28 days after at full bloom.
Under thinning treatments it was maximum when fruits were thinned at the fruit set stage.
