Abstract:
Performance of Vance Delicious cv. of apple on four semi-dwarfing rootstocks viz., M4, M7, MM 106 and MM 111 was studied.
Significantly more trunk girth was revealed on M7 rootstock followed by M4 and MM 106. Minimum trunk growth was observed on MM 111 rootstock.
Tree size was observed significantly higher on M7, but the differences in the annual shoot growth were found at par on all the rootstocks studied, especially when the plants started bearing commercial crop.
Yield per plant was also observed significantly higher on M7 rootstock followed by M4 and MM 106. Minimum fruit yield was observed on MM 111. In physical parameters of fruits no significant differences were observed in length, breadth and fruit pressure except fruit weight.
Significantly more fruit weight was observed on M7 and M4 than on MM 106 and MM 111. Chemical properties of fruits such as T.S.S., reducing sugars, total sugars and acidity were observed at par on all the rootstocks.
