ISHS Acta Horticulturae 662: VII International Symposium on Temperate Zone Fruits in the Tropics and Subtropics

LONG TERM STUDIES ON PLANTING SYSTEM-CUM-DENSITY OF PLANTING IN LOW-CHILL SOFT PEAR UNDER SUBTROPICAL CONDITIONS

Authors:   L.D. Bist, A. Yadav
Keywords:   planting system, planting density, pear, fruit yield
Abstract:
The results of present investigation indicated superiority of systems with higher densities viz., double hedgerow and cluster systems in that order over systems with lower plant densities viz., paired and square systems. Since double hedge row system with a plant density of 888 plants/ha caused significant growth increments and maintained highest yields in all the years after seventh year of tree age, this system may be recommended for planting Bagugosha pear.
