ISHS Acta Horticulturae 660: V International Congress on Artichoke

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ARTICHOKE MOTH (GORTYNA XANTHENES GERMAR) BIOLOGY KNOWLEDGE FOR ITS CONTROL IN NAVARRA (SPAIN)

Authors:   R. Biurrun, M. Esparza, A. Tiebas, A. Aldaz, J.I. Macua
Keywords:   Hatching, Oviposition, Degree-day
Abstract:
Control of artichoke moth larva depends directly on the hatch of the larva eggs. Its drilling-feeding habit makes difficult the control efficiency by authorized insecticides in the culture with action by ingestion and inhalation and only during their firsts days of life, those insecticides can act against them. This pest has a generation per year. Moths start to fly in mid-December until the end of December. The oviposition starts in this period and the control treatments should start when it reaches 5-20% of the hatching (around February).
