Abstract:
It is an honour for us to be addressing this learned assembly here today in Tudela as part of this 5th World Conference on Artichokes.
Upon examining the conference programme, it becomes evident that a large group of rigorous researchers will be presenting their work in a series of almost 110 papers divided into seven sections covering a wide range of aspects from genetics, reproduction and growth to the production and care of artichokes.
One aspect not explicitly covered but nevertheless at the heart of all the papers presented is the strong appeal of this vegetable product whose existence, more or less as we know it today, dates back no more than nine hundred years.
People’s love of this vegetable and their knowledge of its evident health benefits are alone enough to justify all the studies aimed at improving the production and quality of what is often called the queen of vegetables....
