Abstract:
Selection from native and cultivated tree flora was the main objective in the Apricot Rootstock Breeding Programme, initiated in 1975, at the Fruit Research Stations in Constanta, Bihor and at the Fruit Research Institute in Pitesti-Maracineni.
Research was conducted over 25 years on new rootstocks for apricot.
Following the studies undertaken on research trials in the nursery and orchard, many genotypes were selected and tested in the Network of the State Institute for Cultivar Testing and Registration.
Finally, many of these genotypes were released and registered in "The Official List of Cultivars (hybrids) Cultivated in Romania". The main specific features of the rootstocks for apricot, which were obtained and are used in Romania, are presented in this paper: Constanta 14 and Constanta 16 (from the Fruit Research Station in Constanta); Albe Mici (from the Fruit Research Station in Bihor); and Adaptabil and Miroper (from the Fruit Research Institute in Pitesti-Maracineni). Now, these rootstocks are used in the nurseries in Romania.
