Abstract:
'GiSelA 3' (209/1) is a new size-controlling rootstock for sweet cherries.
Compared to its sibling 'GiSelA 5', growth reduction is stronger and flat branching angles are more pronounced.
Data from the original selection sites as well as from first rootstock trials in Germany have shown that this rootstock induces precocity and regular high yields and that fruit quality is not compromised. 'GiSelA 3' is tentatively classified as tolerant to ilarviruses PDV and PNRSV. It does not sucker, shows good winter hardiness, propagates easily and has good compatibility with cultivars.
It is recommended for testing in high density orchards with good soil, irrigation, tree support, and intensive cultural management.
