Abstract:
In southwestern Germany, Cacopsylla picta, C. melanoneura and C. mali were collected in each of four orchards that differed in the pest management regime.
Psyllid numbers were low in a commercial orchard managed according to the guidelines of the Integrated Apple Production.
In three low intensity orchards with no insecticide treatments, psyllid numbers were considerably higher.
In these orchards, C. mali was by far the most abundant pest. Candidatus Phytoplasma mali, the causal agent of apple proliferation, was transmitted by overwintered adults of C. picta. No transmission was obtained with the spring generation of C. picta, the overwintered and spring generation of C. melanoneura and C. mali.
