ISHS Acta Horticulturae 657: XIX International Symposium on Virus and Virus-like Diseases of Temperate Fruit Crops - Fruit Tree Diseases

INVESTIGATIONS OF POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS IN THE RELEASE OF TRANSGENIC PLUMS

Authors:   M. Ravelonandro, N. Minoiu, R. Scorza
Keywords:   sharka virus, transgenic, biorisks
Abstract:
Transgenic plums were released into field for virus resistance testings. Selected plants were inoculated with known PPV isolates and among those is the PPV BN-7 parasiting woodies in Bistrita (Romania). Using the double grafting inoculation techniques, all transgenic clones were infected. Restricted infection of the resistant clone C5 versus the systemic spread of PPV in the expected control plants led us to verify if transgenic plums harboring the PPV capsid sequences can be regarded as sources of new emerging PPV isolates.
