EXTERNAL TRADE OF THE SMALL FRUITS IN HUNGARY

Author:   A. Kürti
Keywords:   foreign trade, raspberry, currants, gooseberry, strawberry, RCA-index, EU-accession
Abstract:
The paper aims to present some features of the Hungarian small fruit export and import. In order to achieve this goal, we have to analyse the weaknesses and competitive advantages of small fruit production and Hungary's export and import, too. The study also aims to represent how the EU-enlargement affect the Hungarian exports and imports through tariff changes. It turned out from the survey that the main factor influencing Hungary's export is the level of the production. The tariffs and other barriers do not play an important role. Therefore, the modernisation of the plantation would be of primary importance. The main task would be the implementation of irrigation. Without this the production will not be profitable because of the effects of a more and more arid climate. The other important problem is the lack of the mechanical harvesting, which is actually adopted only in the big plantations.
