ISHS Acta Horticulturae 653: IX International Symposium on Plant Bioregulators in Fruit Production

FRUIT SET AND FRUIT GROWTH OF SEEDLESS CHERIMOYA (ANNONA CHERIMOLA MILL.) INDUCED BY GA3 UNDER GREENHOUSE CULTIVATION IN JAPAN

Authors:   S. Koura, K. Hasegawa, Y. Yamamoto, Y. Yonemoto
Keywords:   cherimoya, GA3, 'Big Sister', 'Suiho'
Abstract:
Appropriate period of GA3 application on cherimoya to induce parthenocarpic fruit growth was determined using flowers of 'Big Sister' and 'Suiho' at different stages of floral development to anthesis. Effective period of GA3 treatment was from one to four days before, to one day after, anthesis for both 'Big Sister' and 'Suiho'. Furthermore, with the following five times of GA3 treatment, the fruit production similar to an artificial pollination was possible. This seedless fruit production technique with GA3 is considered to contribute to the expansion of cherimoya cultivation. Also the expansion of the market of cherimoya in Japan is expected, as seedless fruit induced by this method for 'Suiho' has an excellent fruit quality.
