Abstract:
Agua Nueva II, a Golden Delicious apple mutant which requires only 500 chilling hours was studied, with the purpose to learn more on the presence of endogenous gibberellins in immature seeds of developing fruitlets.
Seed samples were collected from young fruits when the highest levels of gibberellin activity occurred, e.g. about ten weeks after full bloom.
Removed seeds were frozen in liquid nitrogen, freeze-dried and prepared for endogenous gibberellin analysis using the gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technique.
The use of GC-MS has allowed identifying gibberellins A4, A7, A9, A12 and A20 in immature apple seeds.
When [3H]-GA4 was applied to the seeds of fruits, more radioactivity was found in the bourse bud.
