Abstract:
Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers were used to characterize 24 Portuguese Vitis vinifera cultivars, representative of the “Douro” and “Vinhos Verdes” regions.
The eight primers used to study Vitis cultivars provided 49 reliable bands, of which 45 (91,8%) were polymorphic.
The UPGMA dendrogram obtained using the 49 bands scored showed that all the studied cultivars can be distinguished at a similarity level between 0.62 and 0.90. Alvarinho and Malvasia Fina present a great similarity, Tinta Francisca and Tinto Cão, Amaral and Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca and Touriga Nacional, Moscatel Galego and Negra Mole are also close.
Jaen is the cultivar most distant from the others.
