Keywords:   cultivars, genefund, morphological-ornamental, bioecological properties
Abstract:
The Floriculture Department of the Botanical Garden Vilnius University was established in 1992. Herbaceous ornamental (field flower) collections rich in genera, species, cultivars, and hybrids (3200 plant names of 80 families and 324 genera) have been accumulated and preserved.
In 2002 in the Botanical Garden (in Kairėnai) of Vilnius University have been accumulating, preserving and investigating the of herbaseous ornamental plants Dahlia cultorum Thorsrud et Reisaeter, Hemerocallis L., Iris L., Lilium L., Narcissus L., Paeonia L., Primula L. and Tulipa L. (2350 of both foreign and Lithuanian origin). The genefund consists of 886 flower taxa developed by Lithuanian breeders. The morphological-ornamental and bio-ecological properties of the genera Dahlia cultorum Thorsrud et Reisaeter, Iris L., Primula L. and Tulipa L. were investigated and estimated. 20 Dahlia cultorum Thorsrud et Reisaeter, 5 Iris L., 10 Primula L. and 20 Tulipa L. cultivars released by Lithuanian breeders are recommended to be included into highest priority list of Lithuanian genetic resources conservation.
