| Abstract:
Failure of young fruit trees to crop may be due either to a lack of flower initiation or to poor fruit set resulting from competition between young fruits and vegetative meristems. Growth regulators can be used to correct both these deficiencies and are a valuable supplement to the use of dwarfing rootstocks in high density systems. Although most success has been obtained with apples, the same principles apply to pears, plums and other fruits, though practical application depends on the availability of suitable growth regulators. | |
