Abstract:
Over 150 strawberry genotypes originated from Europe and USA grown in the RIPF cultivars’ collection were investigated in 2001 – 2003. Evaluation comprised 39 vegetative and generative plant characteristics, susceptibility to main leaf and root diseases, winter hardiness and fruit quality.
The ranking scale evaluated most of the traits, while firmness was measured by Kinston 5542 machine and extract content by Rudolph J-157refractometer.
In the paper there are characterised only 50 genotypes which are new or considered to be valuable under investigated conditions.
Investigated genotypes differed in most of the evaluated characteristics; none of them combined all of the traits in the highest level.
Among the cultivars with the best fruit quality are ‘Alice’, ‘Camarosa’, ‘Carisma’, ‘Cigoulette’, ‘Cilady’, ‘Cireine’, ‘Darselect’, ‘Granda’, ‘Madeleine’, ‘Onda’, and ‘Evita’. Unfortunately all of the cultivars are not well adapted to the Polish climate conditions (not sufficient resistance to diseases and winter cold). In the contrary to the Polish bred cultivars (‘Aga’, ‘Kama’, ‘Dukat’, ‘Elkat’, ‘Heros’, ‘Filon’ or ‘Salut’) which were much better adapted to the local climatic conditions, but their fruit quality (especially fruit firmness) was not sufficient.
